Job summary

Dickinson College is seeking a Catering Supervisor to assist the Catering Manager and other catering supervisors in delivering all special functions and delivery services throughout Dining Services. The role involves overseeing banquet operations, planning equipment needs and timelines, and coordinating staff to set up, serve, and clean up events on or off campus.

You will lead pre-event meetings, determine service timing for high quality guest experiences, and ensure effective communication

Qualifications

  • Supervisory and training experience preferred.
  • Experience coordinating large catering events.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and monitor staff performance.
  • Understanding of food safety and guest service standards.

Responsibilities

  • Hold pre-event meetings to align expectations and instructions for staff.
  • Determine optimal food service timing for quality.
  • Communicate with kitchen and event contacts as needed.
  • Lead or support post-event cleanup efficiently.
  • Coordinate loading/unloading of dishes and equipment by department.
  • Schedule staff via Microsoft Teams and maintain records.
  • Inventory catering equipment, linens, and disposables.

Job Summary

The Catering Supervisor assists the Catering Manager and other catering supervisors in the execution of all special functions and delivery services throughout Dining Services.

Essential Functions
  • Oversee all phases of banquet operations.
  • Plan equipment needs and timelines for a variety of catered events.
  • Create lists and delegate responsibilities to catering staff, or work independently to set up, serve, and clean up events on or off campus.
  • Hold pre‑event meetings to ensure clear expectations and instructions for all scheduled staff.
  • Determine the ideal timing to serve food to ensure the highest quality of service.
  • Communicate with kitchen staff and the event point of contact as needed.
  • Initiate and organize clean‑up at the close of each function to utilize time efficiently.
  • Separate items by department to ensure swift unloading and return of dishes and equipment to proper areas.
  • Plan for and occasionally lead weekly planning meetings and quarterly all‑catering staff meetings.
  • Schedule casual catering staff via Microsoft Teams.
  • Inventory and maintain catering equipment, linens, and disposables.
  • Schedule and coordinate rental equipment when necessary.
  • Ensure all catering staff adhere to Dickinson Dining Services' highest standards of food safety and alcohol safety.
  • Prioritize the guest experience while protecting and supporting staff.
Supervisory Duties
  • Supervise work of others, including planning, assigning, and scheduling work.
  • Review work and ensure quality standards.
  • Train staff and oversee productivity.
  • Make recommendations for hiring, termination, and pay adjustments but do not have the final decision authority.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Serv‑Safe certification or obtain certification upon hire.
  • TIPS/RAMP trained or certify upon hire.
  • Position subject to Pennsylvania Act 153 Clearance, which includes Pennsylvania Criminal History Record Information Check, Pennsylvania Child Abuse Certification, and Federal Criminal History Record Information Check per state law and Dickinson College policy.
Physical Demands

Continual listening, hearing, talking, standing, crouching, lifting up to 50 pounds, walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, kneeling, squatting, balancing, pulling, and pushing. Requires reaching overhead often. May require working outdoors and exposure to extreme heat.
