Job summary

Meriwether Godsey is seeking a Temporary/On-Call Catering Cook for George School in Newtown, PA. The role involves preparing, cooking, and presenting meals for daily use and events.

You will work nights and weekends as needed, with a pay rate of $25 per hour. The position requires a high school diploma, ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain), and prior high-volume kitchen experience.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Experience in production kitchen or contract dining preferred (2–4 years).
• Ability to work nights and weekends for events.
• Demonstrated professionalism and strong communication.

Responsibilities

• Participate in preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of food.
• Prepare items in batches to ensure quality and timely service.
• Follow recipes and suggest improvements for quality and presentation.
• Cook, maintain, and store foods at required temperatures.
• Take and record temperatures and maintain sanitation standards.
• Maintain records of production and leftovers for forecasting.
• Assist with organization of coolers, freezers, and storerooms.
• Attend production meetings and contribute suggestions.
• Perform duties in accordance with food safety practices.
• Other duties as assigned.

Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Temporary/ On-Call CateringC ook responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of daily meals and special events at George School, a boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12 in Newtown, PA.

Must be available to work:

• On-Call as needed: nights and weekends for special events
• Pay rate: $25 Per Hour

What the Cook will do:

• Participate in the preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, cereals, soups, sauces, fruits, bread, desserts, and other food items
• Prepare items in batches as close to serving time as possible to ensure quality and limit over-production using good judgment in timing to ensure service without interruption
• Follow recipes and recommend changes in recipes and cooking methods to improve products and ensure the highest quality food preparation and presentation
• Cook, maintain, and store all foods at/to the required temperatures
• Take and record temperatures, following all required food handling and sanitation standards to ensure food safety
• Maintain accurate records of production amounts, attendance & left-over amounts to assist in efficient forecasting information
• Assist with the organization and sanitation of coolers, freezers, and storerooms: all items covered, labeled and dated
• Attend production meetings daily, offering input concerning leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.
• Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices
• Other duties, as assigned

What the Cook will need:

• Must be able to pass an FBI background check
• Pass a skills assessment
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience as a cook desired; production kitchen or contract dining experience ( 2-4 prior experience preferred)
• ServSafe® Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
• Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments
• Ability to measure products and convert units of measure
• High levels of professionalism, strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Flexibility; ability to switch between locations and job duties
• Growing knowledge of sustainable practices
