Job summary

Frye Regional Medical Center is seeking a Cat Scan Technician (PRN) to join our radiology team. The role supports weekdays with rotating weekend and holiday on-call coverage and may require travel to our Lenoir location.

Work involves administering radiopharmaceuticals, performing CT scans and ensuring image quality across cases. Candidate must hold Nuclear Medicine training with ARRT Radiology certification, BLS, and be able to operate under pressure.

Qualifications

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals and other medications per physician orders.
  • Reviews patient history and orders; educates patient about procedures and consent.
  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedures; ensures image quality and repeats if needed.
  • Manages contrast media and medications within scope of practice; monitors patient condition.
  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results; on-call availability within 30 minutes.

Position Summary

Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals as well as other medications to patients and performs the diagnostic study per physician orders.

Essential Functions:
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders.

  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation.

  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice.

  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate.

  • Prepares equipment and supplies.

  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment.

  • Troubleshoots, resolves, and/or reports equipment malfunctions as necessary.

  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s).

  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results.

  • Takes appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure.

  • Enters, transmits and reports scan results.

  • On Call Availability, On-Call Availability: Must accept on call assignments for regularly scheduled shifts and be available to report to facility within 30 minutes of notification. This status will be determined by technologists on duty.

Education/ Certification
  • Two (2) year certificate, Associate degree and/or Bachelor's degree.
  • Graduate of a Program Discipline in Nuclear Medicine Required; bachelor's degree Preferred
  • Current Radiation Operator Certificate in current state. Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Radiology.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)Required Skills
