Job summary

EMC Insurance is seeking an experienced casualty claims leader to guide a team of professionals, mentor talent, and shape claim strategies that deliver exceptional customer outcomes.

You will oversee complex commercial casualty claims, collaborate with counsel and internal partners, ensure adherence to regulatory standards, and drive operational excellence while maintaining EMC's service standards and claims brand.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience in casualty claims.
• Eight years of casualty claims experience, including large/complex claims.
• Active state licenses as required and leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of casualty claims professionals with coaching and performance management.
• Review and oversee claim files for timely, accurate handling.
• Assign claims based on complexity and adjuster workload.
• Provide guidance on coverage, liability, reserving, and resolution strategies.
• Handle highly complex commercial casualty claims and litigated matters as needed.
• Collaborate with counsel, coverage experts, and claims committees on exposures.
• Ensure compliance with standards, authority levels, and documentation.
• Monitor productivity, quality, and expense management; recruit and mentor talent.
• Build strong relationships with agents, insureds, and internal partners.

You'll leverage your technical expertise to mentor and develop talent, influence claim strategy, strengthen agency relationships, and drive operational excellence while supporting EMC's commitment to outstanding service and claims handling.**Essential Functions:*** Lead and develop a team of casualty claims professionals, providing coaching, performance management, and career development.* Review and oversee claim files, ensuring timely, accurate, and effective claim handling.* Assign claims based on complexity, expertise, and adjuster workload.* Provide guidance on complex coverage, liability, compensability, reserving, and claim resolution strategies.* Handle highly complex commercial casualty claims and litigated matters as needed.* Review and approve reservation of rights, denial letters, claim payments, and reserve changes within authority.* Partner with counsel, coverage experts, subrogation, and claims committees on complex exposures.* Ensure compliance with claims best practices, regulatory requirements, authority levels, and documentation standards.* Monitor team productivity, claim quality, loss costs, and expense management.* Recruit, coach, and retain top talent while supporting succession planning, innovation, and inclusion initiatives.* Build strong relationships with agents, insureds, and internal business partners to deliver an exceptional customer experience.* Collaborate with leadership on trends, results, and opportunities while promoting EMC's claims brand and service culture.**Education & Experience:*** Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience* Eight years of experience in casualty claims adjusting or related experience, including experience with large and complex claims* Attainment of all applicable state licenses as required* Prior leadership experience* Insurance designations, such as INS, AIC, and CPCU preferred**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:*** Excellent understanding and application of casualty claims techniques and a current knowledge of knowledge of various jurisdictions, good faith claims handling requirements and legal environments.* Advanced knowledge of insurance terms and coverages in commercial lines* Strong leadership qualities with the ability to motivate staff* Excellent knowledge of computers and claims systems* Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills* Excellent ability to gather and analyze a variety of data points to appropriately triage claims handling* Advanced investigative and problem-solving abilities* Occasional travel including overnight, valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards will be required if traveling**The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following:**$92,670 - $128,045 or $102,443 - $140,845**A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range.
