Job summary

UPMC St. Margaret Outpatient Lab is seeking a Casual Phlebotomist to support our outpatient operations with flexible scheduling, covering PTO and call-offs.

The role offers 4 to 12 hour shifts based on department needs and your availability, with a collaborative team focused on high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate has at least one year of full-time phlebotomy experience (excluding school), outpatient phlebotomy experience preferred, and certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy preferred.
• Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact with customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries promptly.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick or fingerstick; instruct patients when needed.
• Demonstrate dependability and prioritize department needs.
• Collect specimens at off-site locations as required.
• Adhere to lab and hospital policies on procedures, safety and quality.
• Enter demographic data, orders, charges and credits in the LIS.
• Train and orient new staff as assigned.
• Inform staff and supervisors of unusual incidents.
• May perform arterial puncture following guidelines.
• Monitor and maintain supplies for assigned functions.
