Job summary

UPMC St. Margaret Outpatient Lab is seeking a Casual Phlebotomist to join a supportive, team-oriented environment.

This flexible role provides coverage for PTO and call-offs with shifts ranging from 4 to 12 hours, fitting around your availability. You’ll have at least one year of full-time phlebotomy experience, with outpatient phlebotomy preferred, and you’ll work with a collaborative team dedicated to patient care and service excellence.

Qualifications

• At least one year of full-time phlebotomy experience (excluding clinicals or school).
• Outpatient phlebotomy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and respond to telephone inquiries.
• Procure blood specimens by venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick; instruct patients on collection procedures.
• Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and prioritization to accommodate department needs.
• Transport specimens to the appropriate section of the laboratory following established safety procedures.
• Adhere to established laboratory and hospital policies in areas of procedures, methods, quality control, safety, including hand hygiene and isolation precautions.
• Performs related clerical duties and utilizes computer systems to enter demographic information, test orders, receives, cancels, charges, and credits tests, while ensuring sample identity.
• Trains and orients new employees, students and residents.
• Informs technical staff and pathologists of any unusual incidents.
• May perform arterial puncture following strict guidelines.
• Maintains supplies for the position's functions and uses materials cost-effectively.
