Job summary

The University of Hawai'i invites applications for a Casual Hire Academic Program Outreach at Hawai'i Community College. This full-time temporary appointment supports program recruitment, reports to the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and coordinates a range of outreach events.

Responsibilities include presenting at events and community fairs, working with faculty and counselors, developing social media content and promotional materials, preparing reports, assisting applicants, and analyzing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field and one year of professional work experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to drive to Hawaii target schools.
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrates ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrates exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to engage and interact with the audience.
  • Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with other individuals.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with the Academic Affairs core staff in developing and implementing a program recruitment strategy for all academic programs at the college.
  • Reports to the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) while supporting both LAS and Career and Technical Programs.
  • Schedules and organizes recruitment events and activities. Communicates opportunities for involvement to faculty.
  • Prepares and conducts oral presentations for prospective students, community fairs, and other events to encourage program enrollment.
  • Represents the program at various events and meetings to provide information to prospective students regarding eligibility and program services.
  • Works closely with program coordinators, department chairs, and deans to gather information that can be used in social media and marketing materials. Creates and conducts special exhibits at community events, civic events, and target schools.
  • Prepares and distributes correspondence, presentations, materials, and reports related to recruitment.
  • Assists students with completing applications for admission into the program.
  • Gathers and analyzes data and prepares descriptive, statistical, and evaluative reports related to student recruitment.
  • Maintains liaison with the Divisional for Student Affairs.
  • Maintains liaison with counselors, faculty, and staff from target schools, community organizations, and social service agencies to facilitate enrollment into programs.
  • Works with diverse populations of varying ages, education levels and cultural backgrounds.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Description

**** Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire appointments, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents or Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field and one (1) year of professional work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, and ability to drive to Hawaii target schools.
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrates ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrates exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to engage and interact with the audience.
  • Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with other individuals.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Successful experience working in an educational environment.
  • Successful experience communicating with and working with high school students, parents or community members.
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Experience with the creation of promotional materials.
