Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer – Cast Iron Foundry for Hodges, SC. You will design, develop, and validate foundry tooling for cast-iron components, including 3D models, patterns, cores, core boxes, gating systems, and parting lines.

Collaborate with design engineering, tooling shop, quality, and suppliers to ensure tooling is constructed, validated, and ready for production. Strong Creo/3D CAD skills and foundry experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of foundry tooling design, cores, core boxes and gating.
• Experience with patterns, core boxes, gating systems and risers.
• Understanding of casting quality and manufacturability considerations.

Responsibilities

• Design 3D models and detailed tooling for cast-iron foundry tooling.
• Evaluate casting geometry to determine cores, core prints, parting lines and gating.
• Support patterns, core boxes, gating systems and tooling construction.
• Apply tooling construction knowledge to ensure designs can be built and used in production.
• Develop tooling concepts that support metal flow and quality.
