Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer for the Cast Iron Foundry in Hodges, SC. You will design, develop, and validate tooling used to manufacture cast-iron components, including 3D models, cores, core boxes, gating, risers, and parting lines.

You will collaborate with design engineering, tooling shop, quality, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to ensure tooling is buildable, robust, and supports proper metal flow and quality.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or Materials Science or related field.
• Experience with cast-iron foundry tooling design and construction.
• 3D tooling models, patterns, cores, core boxes, gating, risers, parting lines.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop 3D models and detailed designs for cast-iron foundry tooling.
• Evaluate casting geometry to determine cores, core prints, and gating systems.
• Develop tooling concepts that support metal flow and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with design engineering, tooling shop, quality, and suppliers.
• Analyze tooling and casting performance to improve quality and reduce defects.
• Document functional requirements and translate into detailed designs.
• Participate in design reviews and cost estimates for tooling.
