Job summary

NAVY Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM) in Silverdale, WA is seeking a personable Cashier to support our military community. You will answer calls, assist customers with purchases, and process transactions in a fast-paced on-base environment.

The role requires U.S. citizenship or base access. Prior retail experience is a plus but not required, and benefits begin Day One with federal schedule options and on-base amenities available where applicable.

Qualifications

• Must pass a pre-employment background check.
• Retail experience preferred but not required.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Proactively engages, connects and listens to customers to determine needs.
• Directing customers to merchandise and informing them about promotions, events and STAR card offers while delivering premier customer service.
• Maintains store appearance.
• Uses a Point-of-Sales system, processing cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards and credit/debit transactions; cash handling and giving correct change.

So, what does a typical day look like? What does it take to succeed?

• Proactively engages, connects and listens to customers by asking questions to determine customers’ needs.
• Directing customers to merchandise; informing them about upcoming events, promotions, mobile offers, STAR card promotions all while providing premier customer service.
• Maintains store appearance.
• Using a Point-of-Sales system, processing cash exchanges, discounts, gift cards, credit cards, debit cards (cash handling) including counting money and returning accurate amounts to customer.

The Qualifiers

• Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to perform job duties.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Previous Retail Experience preferred but not required
