Job summary

Ghirardelli Chocolate in San Francisco is seeking a friendly Cashier who greets guests, processes purchases, and helps maintain a welcoming retail environment. You will handle transactions at the register, bag items, and assist guests on the sales floor with product knowledge and up-selling opportunities.

Ideal candidates bring 0–2 years of cashiering experience, basic math and communication skills, and the ability to work with little supervision while delivering superior guest service.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests warmly and process purchases on the electronic register.
• Accurately scan items, bag purchases, and assist with wrapping fragile items.
• Upsell products using established procedures and friendly guidance.
• Complete transactions with cash or card while following security procedures.
• Close each transaction with a friendly invitation to return.
• Assist guests on the sales floor with product questions and purchases.
• Replenish stock, answer phone inquiries, and maintain store appearance.
• Monitor guest activity and support management to create an engaging experience.
• Help with pre-packing, gift-wrapping, and inventory control as needed.
• Offer samples to guests to enhance product discovery.

The Cashier is a brand ambassador that will greet guests and process purchases through the electronic register system.

Starting Rate: $21.00/hr

Scope of Responsibilities

Cashiering

• Greet each Guest using both verbal and non-verbal communication in a positive manner
• Process purchases using either scanner technology or electronic keypad
• Properly bag purchases--wrapping breakable items where necessary
• Up-sell to Guest using established and appropriate procedures
• Process final purchases with either proper cash handling techniques or credit card transactions
• Close each transaction with a friendly greeting and inviting the guest to return

Guest Service

• When not processing purchases, assist guests on sales floor with purchases
• Utilize knowledge of products and pricing to satisfy guest inquiries and create up-sell opportunities
• Replenish stock of durable and perishable goods as needed
• Answer shop phone system and respond to guest service needs in a professional manner
• Regularly assist Chocolateers, Supervisors, and Management in monitoring guest activity and creating excitement with superior guest service
• Assist, when necessary, in pre-packing items for sale; gift-wrapping items for sale; inventory control and management
• Offer samples of product to guests

Education and/ Experience

• High School Diploma Preferred
• 0 - 2 years minimum experience in retail/restaurant cashiering.
