Food Clerk-Cashier

Part Time – Hourly

Primary Responsibilities

• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
• Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales
• Keep the register area clean by sweeping floors and cleaning check lanes, registers, and scales
• Prevent loss of money and merchandise through careful handling, correct pricing, and accurate use of store procedures for coupons, WIC, vouchers, checks, and cards
• Ensure safety for yourself, customers, and co-workers by following store safety rules and reporting hazards
• Bag customer purchases efficiently and accurately
• Understand the operation and safety requirements of cash registers, scanners, scales, and intercom systems
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers as needed

Supervision

Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front-End Manager or Store Manager.

Qualifications

• Exceptional customer service skills
• Basic mathematics skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in a related field is preferred

Specific Tasks

• Stand for at least 4 hours
• Lift up to 40 lbs from 6 inches to 48 inches
• Move up to 40 lbs up to 15 feet
• Pick up items from the floor, cases, shelves, or carts
• Retrieve merchandise from high shelves (approximately 84 inches high)
• Bend and twist during cleaning and stocking activities

Work Environment

Indoor environment with transitions between heat, cold, humidity, and dust from store entrances/exits.
