Food Clerk-Cashier

Part Time – Hourly

Primary responsibilities

• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
• Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using an electronic cash register, scanner, and scale
• Clean register area by sweeping floors, cleaning check lanes, registers, and scales
• Prevent loss of money and merchandise through careful handling, accurate pricing, and proper use of store procedures for coupons, WIC, vouchers, checks, credit, and debit cards
• Ensure safety of self, customers, and co-workers by following store safety rules and reporting hazards
• Bag customer purchases quickly and correctly
• Understand operation, safety, and restraints of cash register, scanner, scale, and intercom system
• Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers as needed

Supervision received: Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front-End Manager or Store Manager.

Qualifications

• Exceptional customer service skills
• Basic mathematics skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in a related field or industry

Specific tasks

• Standing capability for at least 4 hours
• Move up to 40 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches
• Move up to 40 lbs. up to 15 feet
• Pick up items from floor, case, shelf, or cart
• Retrieve merchandise from high shelves (approximately 84 inches from the floor)
• Bend and twist at the waist during cleaning and stocking activities

Work Environment

Inside environment with transitions between heat, cold, humidity, and dust from store entrance/exit.
