Position: Food Clerk-Cashier

Type: Part Time – Hourly

Primary Responsibilities

• Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely
• Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales
• Clean register area by sweeping floors, cleaning check lanes, registers, and scales
• Prevent loss of money and merchandise by careful handling, accurate pricing, and proper use of store procedures for coupons, vouchers, checks, credit, and debit cards
• Ensure safety of self, customers, and co-workers by following store safety rules and reporting hazards
• Bag customer purchases efficiently and correctly
• Understand operation, safety, and restraints of electronic cash registers, scanners, scales, and intercom systems
• Perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisors and managers, including substituting for absent workers

Supervision

Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front-End Manager or Store Manager.

Qualifications

• Exceptional customer service skills
• Basic mathematics skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior experience in a related field is preferred

Specific Tasks

• Stand for at least 4 hours
• Lift up to 40 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches
• Move up to 40 lbs. up to 15 feet
• Pick up items from floor, case, shelf, or cart
• Retrieve merchandise from shelves approximately 84 inches high
• Bend and twist at the waist during cleaning and merchandise handling

Work Environment

Indoor environment with transitions between heat, cold, humidity, and dust from store entrances and exits.
