Food Clerk-Cashier

Part Time – Hourly

Primary Responsibilities

1. Greet, assist, and ring out all customers politely.
2. Process customer purchases quickly and accurately using electronic cash registers, scanners, and scales.
3. Clean register area by sweeping floors and cleaning check lanes, registers, and scales.
4. Prevent loss of money and merchandise through careful handling, accurate pricing, and proper use of store procedures for coupons, WIC, vouchers, checks, credit, and debit cards.
5. Ensure safety for self, customers, and co-workers by following store safety rules and reporting hazards.
6. Bag customer purchases quickly and correctly.
7. Understand operation, safety, and restraints of electronic cash registers, scanners, scales, and intercom systems.
8. Perform miscellaneous tasks assigned by supervisors and managers, including substituting for absent workers and additional duties to serve customers.

Supervision: Cashiers (food clerks) report directly to the Front-End Manager or Store Manager.

Qualifications

• Above and Beyond Customer Service
• Basic Mathematics (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Prior experience in related field or industry

Specific Tasks

• Standing capability, minimum 4 hours
• Move up to 40 lbs. from 6 inches to 48 inches
• Move up to 40 lbs. up to 15 feet
• Pick up items from floor, case, shelf, or cart
• Retrieve merchandise from shelves approximately 84 inches high
• Bend and twist at the waist for cleaning, loading, and unloading

Work Environment

Inside work with transitions between heat, cold, humidity, and dust from store entrances/exits.
