Job summary

Statesystems Inc is seeking a detail-oriented Cash Application Specialist in Houston to accurately post customer payments from ACH, lockbox, credit cards and remote deposits, and to support AR processes and month-end close.

You will reconcile receipts, apply payments to invoices using remittance details, and collaborate with AR and Billing teams to resolve issues. A high school diploma and 2+ years in cash applications are required; Excel and remittance processing experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in Accounting/Finance preferred.
• 2+ years in cash applications, AR, collections, or related accounting support.
• Strong knowledge of AR processes, reconciliations, debits/credits, and journal entries.
• Proficiency with accounting software, Excel, banking platforms, and remittance processing.
• Detail-oriented with analytical, time-management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Post customer payments received through ACH, lockbox, credit card, and remote deposit channels.
• Apply payments accurately to customer invoices using remittance details.
• Research and resolve payment discrepancies, short payments, overpayments, unapplied cash, and unidentified receipts.
• Reconcile cash receipts with bank activity and internal accounting records.
• Partner with Accounts Receivable and Billing teams to resolve payment application issues.
• Maintain accurate cash application records and support month-end close activities.
• Follow company policies and internal controls for cash application processes.
• Respond to internal and external questions related to payment applications.
