Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate documentation and final disposition of cases within Oregon's Indigent Disposition Program.
  • Manage timelines and ensure compliance with Oregon Mortuary and Cemetery Board requirements.
  • Prepare death certificates and maintain physical and electronic case files.
  • Coordinate with state agencies, VA eligibility, and scheduling offices.
  • Notify relatives and communicate program options to families.
  • Arrange release, pickup, or transfer of remains as applicable.
  • Liaise with hospitals, hospice providers, Medical Examiner’s Office, and funeral homes.
  • Schedule case pickups and dispositions; coordinate cremated remains if needed.
  • Submit completed files to billing for reimbursement when appropriate.

Location: Portland, OR

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday - Friday

Pay: $23-$25/hr DOE

WHO THEY ARE:

Our client provides specialized services surrounding the respectful and timely care of unclaimed deceased individuals. Their work requires compassion, accuracy, discretion, and close coordination with families, healthcare providers, government agencies, funeral homes, and other community partners.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who is highly organized, comfortable handling sensitive situations, and able to manage detailed cases from beginning to end.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

As the Case Manager, you’ll coordinate the documentation, communication, and final disposition of cases within Oregon’s Indigent Disposition Program.

  • Manage cases in accordance with Oregon Mortuary and Cemetery Board timelines and documentation requirements
  • Complete and maintain death certificates, physical case files, and electronic tracking records
  • Coordinate with state agencies, VA eligibility and scheduling offices, and other organizations as needed
  • Research and locate potential relatives or contacts and send required notifications
  • Communicate with families and acquaintances regarding program requirements and available options
  • Coordinate the release, pickup, shipment, or transfer of remains when claimed
  • Maintain communication with hospitals, hospice providers, the Medical Examiner’s Office, and receiving funeral homes
  • Schedule case pickups, releases, and final disposition
  • Coordinate transportation of cremated remains to Willamette National Cemetery when applicable
  • Prepare and submit completed case files to billing for reimbursement processing when appropriate
