Job summary

The Salvation Army North & Central Illinois Division is hiring a part-time case manager in Lincoln, Nebraska, to support emergency assistance clients and pantry services. You will interview clients, coordinate with community agencies, and help plan holiday support programs.

You will also maintain confidential records in SIMS, prepare required reports, and handle funds disbursement. Driving is an essential function of this role and collaboration with staff is required.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two years’ prior case work or related experience.
  • College coursework in human services preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts all client interviews regarding needs for assistance.
  • Network with other community agencies to prevent duplication of services.
  • Maintain adequate supplies within the food pantry to provide emergency food assistance.
  • Maintain and prepare reports and statistics required by The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain an organized filing system of confidential client records, including backups and SIMS data entry.
  • Facilitate the disbursement of funds to clients for emergency assistance.
  • Plan and execute the Christmas Assistance program and Thanksgiving outreach.
  • Operate multiline telephone system and provide information on available services.
  • Pathway of Hope (POH) duties include developing community partnerships and recruiting eligible families.
  • Drive as an essential function of the role.
  • Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings.

Job description

  • Part- Time 29 Hours per week, Pay Range: $16.00-$19.00 per hour depending on experience***

Summary/Primary Purpose:

Providing case management for the emergency assistance department. Works with clients and other agencies to provide needed services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Conducts all client interviews regarding needs for assistance.
  • Network with other community agencies and know what they provide (and to prevent duplication of services).
  • Maintain adequate supplies within the food pantry so as to be able to provide emergency food assistance to clients who come for assistance.
  • Maintain and prepare reports and statistics required by The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain an organized filing system of confidential client records, including backups of computerized data and entry of required documentation in the SIMS system.
  • Facilitate the disbursement of funds to clients for emergency assistance throughout the year.
  • Plan and execute the process of providing Christmas Assistance to clients during the holidays including Thanksgiving.
  • Operates multiline telephone system to answer incoming calls and direct callers to the appropriate personnel. This includes providing information on available services to callers and taking messages when appropriate personnel are unavailable.
  • Pathway of Hope (POH) responsibilities include developing and collaboration of partnerships within community and actively recruits families that may benefit from POH initiatives.
  • Responsible for case management with POH participants to ensure comprehensive assessments, goals and action plans are monitored.
  • Forwards correspondence related to mail appeal to Divisional Headquarters, Direct Mail office.
  • Attends relevant training sessions as directed by Corps Officer.
  • Present a professional and positive manner when representing The Salvation Army.
  • Assist with pantry coordination as needed.
  • Attends weekly & monthly staff meetings.
  • Driving is an essential function of the role.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two years’ prior case work or related experience. College coursework in human services preferred.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to be flexible, prioritize and work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills, and the ability to access data systems via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Mathematical skills to include add, subtract, multiply, divide, use of common fractions and decimals.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.
Other Qualifications:

Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment. May need to climb, balance. Kneel, crouch or crawl. This position will required the ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds occasionally.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
