Job summary

Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), part of the American Chemical Society, seeks an AI Workplace Productivity Intern for Summer 2027 at our Columbus, Ohio headquarters. The internship runs May 17–August 6, 2027, offering hands-on exposure to enterprise AI tools and productivity platforms.

You will identify AI opportunities, document workflows, and help teams adopt AI-enabled processes that streamline repetitive tasks and improve data analysis for senior executives and business teams.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree in IT, Business, CS, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • Strong interest in AI, end-user technology, productivity tools, and business process improvement.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 apps, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Power Platform, or similar AI tools is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities to improve workplace productivity using Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and other AI tools.
  • Interview teams to understand workflows, productivity challenges, and opportunities for AI-enabled improvements.
  • Build, test, and document AI-assisted workflows for common business tasks (Excel analysis, reporting, document creation).
  • Create quick-reference guides, templates, and learning materials to promote AI usage.
  • Research best practices for prompt engineering and responsible AI in an enterprise environment.
  • Gather user feedback, identify adoption barriers, and propose future pilots and adoption plans.
  • Foster cross-organizational connections through the Summer Intern Program to explore career opportunities.

Position Summary:

CAS is currently seeking an AI Workplace Productivity Intern for Summer 2027. This position will be located at our headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. The Internship will run from May 17th, 2027, to August 6th, 2027.

Our Summer Intern Program aims to foster a high level of engagement and learning through in-depth immersion in our working environment with professional teams. Participants will gain exposure to emerging workplace technologies, enterprise AI tools, productivity platforms, and practical business process improvement opportunities while expanding their professional network with CAS staff and fellow interns.

The AI Workplace Productivity Intern will help identify, test, document, and promote practical uses of Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft 365, and other approved AI-enabled tools to improve employee productivity and streamline business processes. Working within Workplace Technology, the intern will focus on real-world business outcomes rather than software development, helping teams discover opportunities where AI can automate repetitive work, accelerate data analysis, improve knowledge sharing, and enhance day-to-day employee experiences for senior executives and business teams.

Job Accountabilities:
  • Identify opportunities to improve workplace productivity for the CAS Leadership Team, using Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and other approved AI-enabled tools.
  • Interview teams and employees to understand current workflows, productivity challenges, and opportunities for practical AI-enabled process improvement.
  • Build, test, and document AI-assisted workflows that support common business tasks such as Excel analysis and reporting, document creation and summarization, meeting preparation and follow-up, knowledge management, and repetitive administrative processes.
  • Create quick-reference guides, demonstrations, templates, and learning materials that help employees understand when and how to use approved AI solutions effectively.
  • Research best practices for prompt engineering, responsible AI use, AI-assisted work, and productivity transformation in an enterprise environment.
  • Gather user feedback, identify adoption barriers, and recommend practical opportunities for future pilots, experimentation, and broader organizational adoption.
  • Connect across the organization through the Summer Intern Program to build influential working relationships and gain insight into future technology career opportunities.
Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Business, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • Strong interest in artificial intelligence, end-user technology, productivity tools, and business process improvement.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 applications, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Power Platform, or similar AI and automation tools is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, teaming, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a professional technology environment as well as independently.
