Job summary

James Madison University is seeking a Carpet Cleaning Technician (Trades Technician II) for Facilities Management. The role supports Housekeeping E&G, Monday–Friday, 9:00 p.m.–5:30 a.m., with overtime for events and weather.

Primary duties include carpet cleaning, minor repairs, and maintaining equipment to meet university standards. The position requires knowledge of carpet cleaning, operation of truck-mounted systems, flexible hours, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of carpet cleaning techniques and chemicals.
• Ability to operate industrial truck-mounted equipment and related attachments.
• Ability to work various shifts and hours.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Applicants must be at least 19 years old, possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 24 months, and have an acceptable motor vehicle report.

Responsibilities

• Professionally clean and maintain and make minor repairs to all carpets at JMU to meet university standards.
• Perform all repairs and maintenance on equipment for optimal performance at all times.
• Continue to implement entrance mat & hard surface cleaning program.
• Provide accurate spreadsheet of chemical usage and equipment used for repairs for inventory control and re-ordering.
• Perform emergency water extractions when necessary.
• Work as an essential employee during closings as required.
