Job summary

Sumner Memorial High School is seeking a collaborative Carpentry Instructor to lead the HCTC Carpentry program, delivering hands-on instruction and building real-world skills for students. You will work with administrators, teachers, counselors, and local contractors to develop authentic career experiences, aligned with NCCER standards and post-secondary options.

The ideal candidate holds Maine Vocational Teaching Certification or eligibility, plus a strong commitment to student-centered

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Maine Vocational Teacher Certification or eligibility.
• Criminal History Records check clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the HCTC Carpentry program and provide engaging, hands-on instruction.
• Build positive relationships with students while establishing a safe, productive learning environment.
• Collaborate with administration, teachers, counselors, HCTC staff, and industry partners.
• Develop partnerships with local contractors and industry professionals for authentic career experiences.
• Teach a standards-based carpentry curriculum aligned with NCCER.
• Align instruction with post-secondary programs and current industry practices.
• Develop projects that strengthen problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and employability skills.
• Differentiate instruction based on student needs using data to support growth.
• Provide opportunities for site visits, job shadows, tours, and industry seminars.
• Support students in career plans, portfolios, resumes, and employability skills.
• Administer technical assessments and complete employability profiles.
• Contribute to curriculum development and program approval requirements.
• Grow the HCTC Carpentry program through community and industry partnerships.
• Provide supplementary materials, resources, and support to students.
