Job summary

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is seeking a skilled carpenter to perform structural, fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance tasks across school buildings and facilities.

The role requires the ability to read blueprints, use a range of carpentry tools, and work with minimal supervision alongside a carpentry supervisor. Additional duties include maintaining records and safely operating district vehicles as needed.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience performing skilled carpentry work.
• Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
• Perform a full range of carpentry work including structural, fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance tasks involved in repair, remodeling, and new construction projects
• Repair and replace ceiling tiles; lay floors including wood, vinyl tile, and sheet vinyl
• Install or repair glass entrance doors or windows as needed
• Alter, repair, and construct wooden fixtures such as partitions, counters, doors, window frames, sheds, scaffolds, forms and fences
• Maintain integrity of building structures; repair stairway flooring, built-in bookcases, and restroom hardware
• Break up, dig out, and patch existing concrete structures for repair and reconstruction; repair brick and concrete block walls and structures
• Maintain and operate tools including drills, routers, power saws; sharpen hand tools and ensure proper maintenance
• Construct and repair classroom and office furniture, equipment, and fixtures
• Assist in maintaining accurate records of labor, materials, and costs
• Safely operate a district fleet vehicle to travel to assigned job sites, ensuring compliance with traffic laws and policies
• Maintain the vehicle in clean, orderly, and serviceable condition, promptly reporting any maintenance needs
• Perform related work as assigned or required
