Job summary

  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Willingness and ability to periodically work overtime hours, respond to emergency calls after hours/weekends, and work rotating weekend shifts, providing general maintenance duties for the campus.
  • Basic computer skills and competency with Microsoft Office.

Job description

Under the direction of the Manager of Maintenance Services and Supervisor of Maintenance Services for the Department of Facilities Services (DFS), and in collaboration with your colleagues, provide maintenance services to support University operations, including painting, carpentry, roofing, masonry, cabinetry, drywall, windows and coverings, and flooring. Complete repairs and renovation work utilizing plans, specifications, and verbal instructions. Collaborate with DFS and other University departments to initiate and deliver professional, quality results in a timely manner.

Duties
  • Perform finish and rough carpentry, hang suspending ceilings, hang doors, adjust door hardware, set windows, install door casings, install panic bars, craft and install trims, hand drywall, repair roofs, gutters and downspouts, repair masonry and concrete, replace screens, repair and replace flooring, paint and plaster, hang whiteboards and wall hangings, replace signage, repair sign posts, repair handrails, repair restroom partitions, repair and replace window treatments, and other general handyman maintenance not listed here.
  • Respond to work order requests and supervisors' directions to perform troubleshooting, installation, repairs, replacements, and maintenance tasks. Periodically work from team-erected scaffolding, ladders, or lifts in high and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Work independently through an assignment. Exercise independent judgment to determine labor and material needs for assigned tasks. Lend assistance and technical direction to Carpenter/Painter 1.
  • Research, prepare, and present information as requested. Demonstrate ability to schedule and organize assigned work and provide status updates. Consistent and accurate documentation of all work through the work management system.
  • Identify and address issues in need of attention and generate work orders accordingly. Perform all work in compliance with plans, specifications, applicable codes, industry standards, best practices, and Pepperdine standards.
  • Perform regular administrative tasks such as maintaining files, processing paperwork, entering data, and monitoring systems. Maintain required trade-specific training and certifications and obtain further training as needed. Coordinate with vendors and contractors as required. Assist other trades and complete tasks associated with special events.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal and external project participants to ensure that all parties are well informed, and that work proceeds on schedule with minimal impact to University operations.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

This is a Regular, Nonexempt, 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. In addition to base pay, Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitive benefits package.
