Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking a maintenance carpenter to perform general building maintenance including carpentry, flooring repairs/installation, door hardware replacements, stairs and platforms construction, sheetrock installation and window repairs on-site in Newport News, Virginia.

The role requires the ability to work at extreme heights or in small spaces, read measurements, use general hand tools and power tools, and to cover assigned shifts as production needs

Responsibilities

• Read measurements and follow instructions to complete tasks.

The Role

The position will perform general building maintenance including but not limited to general carpentry, various flooring repairs/installation, door and door hardware replacements, construction of stairs & platforms, sheetrock installation & finishing; window replacements and repairs. and other carpentry tasks as assigned

Must Have

• Candidates must able to work at extreme heights or small confined spaces. Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb. Must be able to lift 40 lbs
• Must possess the ability to read and take measurements
• Candidates should have experience in the use of general hand tools and various power tools
• Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs.

Nice to Have

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred
• Prior Carpentry experience a plus
