HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division is seeking candidates for positions operating light-duty machine tools and related equipment. The role requires climbing, bending, and lifting while maintaining strict quality control in a dynamic shipyard environment.

The Role

Operates light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and equipment such as small lathes, power mills, extruding machines, drills or punch presses, power brakes, shears or saws. May set up machining machines and make adjustments, and perform maintenance on machines. Checks work using prescribed gauges, jigs and fixtures to measure close tolerances. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Candidates Must Be Able To

• Climb ladders and work at extreme heights.
• Work in small, tight, or confined spaces.
• Kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb on a daily basis
• Lift heavy objects weighing 40 lbs. or more
• Work while repeatedly reaching overhead
