Job summary

PCL Construction is seeking a Carpenter Journeyman for the Abilene, Texas project. The role focuses on safe, skilled carpentry work with blueprints, forms, and coordination with crew to meet project specs.

Expect 5x10 work weeks, with base pay $33.00-$35.00 per hour plus a $10.00 incentive, and opportunities to advance within the company. Pre-employment drug tests and a minimum 48+ months of craft experience are required.

Pay Rate:$33.00 - $35.00 (based on certification)

Incentive Rate:$10.00 (will be combined with base rate)

Work Schedule: 5x10’s (subject to change)

Job Responsibilities:

• Safe use of Hand & Power Tools
• Practice safe work habits at all times and promote safety to others.
• Strong working knowledge of and experience working with rotating equipment.
• Perform quality work within a set schedule as determined by the project specifications.
• Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
• Studies blueprint, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
• Selects type and size of related materials according to the job specifications.
• Prepares layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.
• Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, using pencil, chalk, or marking gauge.
• Shapes materials to prescribed measurements using saws, chisels, and planes.
• Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
• Assist in the erection of scaffolding and ladders under direction of a competent person for assembling structures above ground level.
• Assist in concrete placement, reinforcing iron and rebar, and site layout as need arises.
• Ensure proper permits have been obtained and can read & understand all permits.
• Prioritize tasks according to job schedule and work sequence.
• Coordinate work with other crafts, co-workers, and other contractors on the job.
• Assemble and station tools and materials needed to optimal and safe place ready for use as required.
• Track all components and materials for project tasks.
• Must be willing to provide guidance and on the job training and mentoring to other crafts, mainly carpenter helpers and laborers.
• Participate fully in health, safety, quality, and environmental processes.
• Conduct oneself as a Role Model when representing PCL and in contact with project and client personnel, coworkers, other contractors, and subs, and the community.
