Job summary

  • Read and interpret plans/blueprints; estimate cost, time and materials; liaise with customers to deliver a quality product.
  • Promote safety, enforce OSHA, PPE, LOTO policies; maintain shop practices and safe work environment.
  • Train and mentor staff; assist with project planning and coordination with other trades.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs carpentry and related duties requiring routine and advanced degrees of professional skills and technical knowledge. Performs maintenance, remodeling and repairs involving carpentry. Provides training and mentorship to less experienced employees. Serves as lead in absence of lead. Subject to callback and unscheduled work hours as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES
  • 10% Safety Promotes a safe workplace and safe work practices. Complies with all applicable OSHA safety mandates and enforcement of University LOTO & PPE policy. Complies with all EPA/DHEC rules. Promotes positive and productive relationships within and between shops.
  • 45% Carpentry Maintenance Designs, builds, installs and repairs structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings, and cabinetry. Maintains building appearance and structural integrity, including doors and window trim. Assists in constructing walls, remodeling, and hanging and finishing dry wall, installs and repairs all types of structures and performs related tasks involving interior and exterior finish of carpentry work. Installs structural components of buildings such as joists, braces, wood and metal studs, posts, columns and trusses. Installs and repairs ceilings, siding, wood and metal doors and windows. Installs and repairs walls and floors. Constructs and sets forms. Fabricates, installs and repairs interior components such as shelving, benches, lab tables, cabinets and partitions. Fabricates, refits, and installs doors, locks, and trim.
  • 20% Carpentry Construction Reads and comprehends plans and blueprints. Recognizes and selects appropriate lumber types and grades. Makes rough sketches. Estimates cost, time and materials of carpentry projects. Works with customers to provide them with a better product.
  • 15% General Maintenance Works with other trades to help them perform their jobs more easily and more safely. Creates accesses in ceilings, walls, and floors. Installs catwalks in ceilings, attics and over objects. Erects safe scaffolding to minimize use of tall ladders.
  • 10% Training and Mentorship Leads, guides, and/or trains others in applicable procedures and techniques. Completes the required training and testing to maintain applicable licensing, and compliance for industry and University.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range $39,300 - $42,279 Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Emergency Response - In the event of an emergency closure or modified operations, this position is required to respond in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on call.
