Job summary

Clemson University in Seneca, SC is seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Technician to perform paint, plaster, drywall, and related tasks across campus facilities. This role leads in the absence of a supervisor, participates in material estimation and transport, and ensures quality finishes on interior and exterior surfaces.

You will mentor less experienced staff, follow OSHA and EPA/DHEC safety rules, and work a 40-hour schedule with potential on-call requirements.

  • 10% Safety Promotes a safe workplace and safe work practices. Complies with all applicable OSHA safety mandates and enforcement of University LOTO & PPE policy.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY: Performs paint, plaster, and drywall related duties requiring both routine and advanced levels of professional skill and technical knowledge. Performs general construction, maintenance, repair and remodeling of campus facilities. Provides training and mentorship to less experienced employees. Serves as lead in absence of lead. Subject to callback and unscheduled work hours as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

35% Building and Construction Maintenance Performs a wide variety of paint, plaster, drywall, and other related duties involving the maintenance of buildings. Performs base and finish coat procedures of plaster. Performs plaster and dry wall repairs. Estimates and transports materials to and from job site. Performs spraying duties using equipment for paints, stains, lacquers and varnishes. Mixes and matches all types of paints and stains.

10% Training and Mentorship Leads, guides, and/or trains others in applicable procedures and techniques. Completes the required training and testing to maintain applicable licensing.

45% General Paint and Finishing Performs painting and general maintenance of interior and exterior of buildings. Refinishes and finishes interior and exterior furniture and cabinets. Performs general repairs on wallpaper. Finishes drywall. Finishes and refinishes furniture. Finishes plaster ceiling and walls.

10% Safety Promotes a safe workplace and safe work practices. Complies with all applicable OSHA safety mandates and enforcement of University LOTO & PPE policy. Complies with all EPA/DHEC rules. Promotes positive and productive relationships within and between shops.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or equivalent and formal training or trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION:

Expected Salary Range $39,300 - $45,000 Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL:

Emergency Response - In the event of an emergency closure or modified operations, this position is required to respond in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on call.
