JOB SUMMARY

Plans and conducts the more complex agricultural research projects or directs the operations of a laboratory animal facility.

JOB DUTIES

20% - Equipment Maintenance: Operates and maintains agricultural equipment used in experimental projects and rotational crops. Assists with calibration and makes minor repairs on equipment. Maintains equipment in clean/optimal condition.

30% - Irrigation Management: Assist Farm Manager with programming, moving, and operating irrigation pivots and laterals and coordination/communication among users to meet the needs of faculty research projects.

50% - Crop Research: Assists with experimental projects and revenue crops through field preparation, planting, fertilization, cultivation, spraying, harvesting, and data collection. Monitors ongoing experiments and revenue crops to determine need for pest and weed control, takes proactive measures to ensure health of crop, and communicates with project leaders to maintain viability of research projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree in animal husbandry, agriculture or a related field and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. Work experience that is directly related to the area of employment may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Firm working knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures and ability to use in varied situations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Acts as a Lead by guiding the work of others who perform essentially the same work.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES: No fiscal responsibility for the department's budget.

COMPENSATION INFORMATION

Expected Salary Range 43,000 - 53,000 Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL

Emergency Response - In the event of an emergency closure or modified operations, this position is required to respond in order to provide the University's initial response to the emergency situation, including the execution of mission essential functions. Some positions in this category may be required to work remotely or be on call.
