Job summary

Bartlett Cocke General Contractors is seeking a Carpenter Helper to join our San Antonio, TX construction team. The helper supports carpenters by assisting with forms, frames, rails, stairs, and related structures, while helping prepare materials and maintain a safe, organized worksite.

This role requires physical fitness, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and the discipline to wear PPE and follow safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Able to work at heights and on roofs.
• Must wear PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, gloves, and work boots.
• HS Diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Assist carpenters with building forms, chutes, rails, stairs, and structures as required.
• Maintain a clean jobsite, pick up and secure tools daily.
• Perform material handling and storage.
• Load and unload materials from trucks and hoist as needed.
• Establish punch list and close-out procedures with Project Manager, Owner, and Architect.
• Ensure work is performed in a safe manner and follow safety reporting procedures.
• Report problems to Foreman, Superintendent, or Safety Manager.

Job description

Bartlett Cocke General Contractors is currently seeking a Carpenter Helpers to join our team in the San Antonio, TX area! The Carpenter Helper assists the carpenters on the construction site. This role assists with tasks such as repairing, constructing, or dismantling wooden/metal/concrete objects on construction jobsites. The position must be able to identify a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment. This position will also keep work areas clean when needed and prepare material and sites for the work activity.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Assists the carpenter with carpentry duties to include but not limited to building forms, chutes, rails, stairs, and other structures as required.
• Maintains a clean jobsite, picks up all tools and equipment and secures tools on job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
• Performs material handling and storage.
• Loads and unloads material from trucks, manually hauls and/or hoists materials.
• Establish the punch list process and close-out procedures with the Project Manager, Owner, and Architect.
• Ensures that work is performed in a safe manner.
• Ensures that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
• Reports problems to the attention of the Foreman, Superintendent, or Safety Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be physically fit.
• Must have good eyesight.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to work at heights and on roofs.
• Must possess the aptitude, interest, and ability to operation machinery.
• Will be required to wear PPE to include hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, gloves, and work boots.
• HS Diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Demand

This position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous activities under adverse field conditions. Climb ladders and climb into equipment, work on scaffolds, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch. This employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms to signal, grab, pull, push, carry, or turn objects, materials, or tools. Sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms. Use hands to operate equipment and to use tools. Close vision, distance vision, color vision, adjust focus.
