Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Fabricate saw horses, ladders, steps, and shipping containers.
• Shoring, jacking, and leveling of ship sections.
• Install temporary wooden decking panels.

Skills

Ability to read a measuring tape

Basic math skills

Ability to work with hand tools and power tools

Experience reading blueprints

Education

High School Diploma or GED

2 or more years of Trade/Technical schooling

Pay range for this position is $28.88 - $32.08 per hour.

This is an experienced position in the Carpenter Trade. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Working with wood, aluminum, steel, or herculite to fabricate saw horses, ladders, steps, shipping containers, protective covers, and other items;
• Shoring, jacking, and leveling of ship sections;
• Installing fabricated furniture items and joiner doors on ships;
• Installing temporary wooden decking panels;
• Line handling to support ship float-off, sea trials, and inclining evolutions;
• Conducting weight and pull tests using various rigging equipment.

Required/Preferred Education/Training

Preferred:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 2 or more years of Trade/Technical schooling

Required/Preferred Experience

Required:

• Ability to read a measuring tape
• Basic math skills
• Ability to work with hand tools and power tools, including band saws, table saws, planers, and lathes
• Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work on staging or in a condo lift
• Experience reading blueprints
• 2 or more years working in a relevant trade
• Prior boatswain’s mate or coxswain experience
• Must be able to meet the requirements of the Physical Task Analysis
