Job summary

  • High school diploma/GED and Trade School Certificate (6 years carpentry experience plus 3 years may substitute).
  • 3 years job related experience.
  • Basic structural design knowledge including layout, form building, rough framing, and finishing.
  • Ability to work from blueprints or create own building plan when needed.
  • Strong math and geometry skills for carpentry calculations.
  • Ability to figure cost and length of construction and projected completion date.
  • Ability to deal effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Texas Driver’s License, CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Renovate structures from verbal instructions or blueprints.
  • Measure, mark and arrange layout plan of construction; analyze job specs and order materials.
  • Install, textures, and paints drywall; set forms for concrete; frame walls and partitions; erect scaffolding; install fiberglass insulation; perform plumbing and electrical work.
  • Build and repair cabinets, bookshelves, and other furniture; install stairs, wall panels, ceiling tiles, glass panes, and door fixtures and locks; check completed work for accuracy.
  • Monitor and comply with local building codes; secure building permits when required.
  • Plan work schedule to coordinate with other departments to ensure timely completion of project.
  • Participate in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by county managers.

  • Works from verbal instructions or blueprints to renovate structures.
  • Measures, marks and arranges layout plan of construction; Analyzes job specifications and orders specific quantity of materials needed.
  • Installs, textures, and paints drywall; Sets forms for concrete; Frames walls and partitions; Erects scaffolding; Installs fiberglass insulation; performs plumbing and electrical work.
  • Builds and repairs cabinets, bookshelves, and other types of furniture; Installs stairs, wall panels, ceiling tiles, glass panes, and door fixtures and locks; checks completed work for accuracy.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma/GED and Trade School Certificate. (6 years documented carpentry experience in addition to 3 years required experience may substitute for Trade School Certificate).
  • 3 years job related experience.
  • Basic structural design knowledge, including layout, form building, rough framing, and inside and outside finishing.
  • Must have ability to work from blueprints or create own building plan when needed.
  • Strong math and geometry skills necessary for carpentry calculations.
  • Ability to figure cost and length of construction and projected completion date.
  • Ability to deal effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Texas Driver’s License, CDL preferred.
STARTING SALARY RANGE:

$20.50 - $25.63 hourly based on qualifications
