Job summary

The Tepa Companies are seeking a dedicated Carpenter to construct, erect, install, and repair wood structures and fixtures in Texas project sites. You will read blueprints, select materials, and lay out components with precision, using hand and power tools to meet local codes.

Responsibilities include framing, subflooring, finishes, trim work, and installing doors and hardware, with potential site-specific requirements and per diem for travelers 95+ miles away.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction experience including carpentry and/or concrete work.
  • Experience using power and hand tools safely on construction sites.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to overtime/weekends as required.

Responsibilities

  • Read blueprints and study drawings for material types and dimensions.
  • Prepare layouts and select lumber or materials as specified.
  • Assemble and fasten components, ensuring trueness with levels and plumb.
  • Erect scaffolding, install finishes, trim, and flooring where required.
  • Operate tools and equipment to complete carpentry tasks in residential/commercial sites.

LOCATION

This position will require onsite presence at one of our project sites in the Texas region.

Pay range

$24.42 - $37.89 per hour + per diem for travelers 95+ miles from the job site.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Tepa Companies are seeking a Carpenter to construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes.

Job functions:
  • Reads and studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
  • Prepares layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.
  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials, using pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter’s level.
  • Erects framework for structures and lays subflooring.
  • Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
  • Covers subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lays hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base.
  • Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
  • Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates.
  • Constructs forms and chutes for pouring concrete.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • May weld metal parts to steel structural members.
  • May specialize in finish carpentry, such as installing interior and exterior trim, building stairs, and laying hardwood floors.
  • May erect frame buildings and perform general carpentry work in residential construction.
  • May remove and replace sections of structures prior to and after installation of insulating materials.
  • May perform carpentry work in construction of walk-in freezers and environmental test chambers.
WHAT WE’R LOOKING FOR
  • 5+ years of general construction experience, including exposure to carpentry, and/or concrete work
  • Some experience operating equipment and hand tools
  • Knowledge of and ability to use power and hand tools, materials, and other equipment used on construction sites
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures specific to labor work, including OSHA standards
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and back ground check in compliance with federal regulation
  • Ability to work overtime and some weekends as required
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
