Internal Posting- This Is An Internal Posting Open Only For Current North Carolina Department Of Health And Human Services Employees, And Eligible RIF Candidates From North Carolina State Government Including Current Temporary Employees.

This Carpenter position is responsible for repairs, installations, and modifications to building interiors and exteriors.

Key Duties Include

  • Repairing walls, ceilings, windows, doors, and door hardware
  • Performing roofing repairs on EPDM, TPO, metal, and shingle systems
  • Installing and repairing flooring, countertops, and office furniture
  • Assisting with concrete and acoustical ceiling system repairs
  • Providing technical guidance to maintenance staff as needed

Work is performed independently, with supervisory input for complex issues.

The normal working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. This position is an essential position that will be required to report to work during periods of adverse weather and/or other emergency situations. This position is required to perform on-call duty and is subject to emergency call-back at any time, including weekends and Holidays.

This position is part of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Property and Construction, Facility Maintenance team responsible for maintaining the North Carolina State Laboratory and Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (SL/OCME) facility located on District Drive in Raleigh, NC. The SL/OCME facility is 261,000 SF state-of-the-art facility with highly technical and complex building systems. This position will require strong technical experience, knowledge, and skills and the ability to function as a technical expert including evaluating and making final decisions regarding maintaining highly complex mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, fire suppression, and security building systems.

The Division Of Property And Construction

The Division of Property and Construction supports the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services by managing its statewide facilities portfolio, which includes 18 state-operated campuses totaling over 7.7 million square feet and 148 leased properties covering approximately 1.2 million square feet. The division provides maintenance, housekeeping, and grounds services for the Dorothea Dix Campus and basic maintenance and grounds support for the Governor Morehead School. It also oversees the Department’s Capital Improvement Program, managing repair and renovation efforts as well as new capital projects from planning through close-out.

  • Proficient in using tools and equipment common to the carpentry trade.
  • Proven capability of working safely from elevated platforms up to 60 feet.

High school or General Educational Development diploma and two (2) years of experience in the performance of the full range of journey level tasks associated with two (2) or more highly complex mechanical or building trades;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Physical Requirements; HEAVY WORK–Exerting up to 100lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20lbs.of force constantly to move objects. Work may be performed outside during all types of weather conditions.
