Purpose

Provide journey‑level carpentry skills in support of campus facility renovation and repair projects, and campus special events.

Responsibilities
  • Perform rough and finish carpentry in the renovation and repair of campus facilities, including selective demolition, framing, alteration, and repair of floors, ceilings, roofs, walls, and related structures.
  • Select, order, and cut materials as appropriate to meet project requirements. Assemble and install suspended ceilings, doors, windows, cabinets, trim, and associated hardware. Safely utilize all standard tools of the trade. Mortise doors; install locksets and exit hardware for mechanical and electronically‑controlled doors.
  • Provide special event support to campus departments, including construction/assembly of platforms, steps, and stages; delivery and setup of flags and banners; tower lighting support; and other special requests.
  • Accomplish basic shop paperwork and electronic documents, including records for materials used, daily labor report, and weekly timesheet.
  • Assist in shop operations. Maintain and properly secure shop, tools, equipment, and vehicles. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in shop and at job sites. Comply with safety standards and policies.
  • Read, understand, work from drawings, specifications, standards, and written/verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. Inspect completed work for compliance with construction documents and regulatory building and safety codes.
  • Support zone maintenance shops and other campus departments in repair of campus facilities.
  • Attend management‑directed meetings and training. Accomplish other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Three years of experience as a journey‑level carpenter.
  • Before final offer, provide a current driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the most recent 36 months.
  • Texas driving history will be confirmed online during the selection process; out‑of‑state drivers must provide relevant history.
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or graduation from a vocational or technical trade school related to carpentry.
  • Five years or more of journey‑level experience in commercial carpentry with emphasis on interior renovations, including installation of drywall, suspended ceilings, doors and hardware, windows, trim, and casework.
  • Experience fabricating, repairing, or retrofitting cabinets, interior and exterior doors and trim, shelving, countertops, lecterns, and other millwork furnishings.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality work from project drawings, specifications, construction standards, and written/verbal instructions with or without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with building clients, co‑workers, and supervisors in a team environment.
  • Experience working in a large university, commercial, or industrial physical plant.
Driving Requirements

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three‑year driving record from the current state of residence. If not a Texas resident, a Texas driver’s license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing.

Salary Range

$47,840 + depending on qualifications
