Caregiver / Direct Support Professional / Deep Gap
We are hiring for a regular position to support individuals with intellectual, developmental disabilities, mental health, and substance use challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide education on human, legal, and civil rights.
- Promote healthy living and prevent illness and accidents.
- Increase awareness of self‑advocacy and support individual choice and decision‑making.
- Accompany clients to work, movies, concerts, shopping, and other community outings.
- Teach independent living skills and provide transportation to appointments.
- Foster positive relationships within the community and promote decision‑making about living, work, and social relationships.
- Assist with personal care and bathing, help around the home (laundry, cleaning, and decorating).
- Document the care you provide and understand the diverse challenges of those living with disabilities.
- Use effective advocacy strategies and connect clients with resources for career, education, and volunteer opportunities.
- Promote effective communication and assist in medication administration where state law allows.
- Protect confidentiality of client information.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum age 18 years.
- Must meet all pre‑employment screening requirements.
- Demonstrated proficiency in CPR.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to lift 30 lbs; must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Must be able to pull a minimum of 25 lbs, squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop.
- Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Should be able to regularly stand and walk.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in CPR and be able to work on hands, knees, bending, standing, and lifting.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision; must be able to talk and hear.
