The role covers assessment, counseling, service planning, and follow-up to help clients achieve self-sufficiency, with duties including outreach, job readiness, and coordination with employers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • One year of personnel, guidance, sales, or social work experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and computer proficiency, including the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid state driver’s license and reliable access to personal automobile.

Responsibilities

  • Provide vocational and training services to transition youth and adults that are unemployed, underemployed, displaced, disabled, and/or economically disadvantaged populations through an array of activities to reach self-sufficiency.
  • Perform participant assessment, development of service strategy, employment counseling, and post-employment follow-up services based on WIOA Federal, State, and local policies.
  • Orient new participants to program benefits, rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Interview and assess individuals for job readiness, barriers to employment, and individual needs, including skills upgrade and/or training.
  • Recruit eligible participants through outreach to schools, agencies, community organizations, and local employers as appropriate to funding rules.
  • Create and implement service strategy plans for work experience, vocational skills, on-the-job training, and related programs.
  • Assist participants with goals of securing competitive employment, entering the military, or post-secondary education.
  • Serve as a liaison between jobseekers and employers through referrals and business services.
  • Implement and market the youth WIOA work experience program.
  • Collect, coordinate, and report on educational and employment outcomes and program progress.
  • Conduct follow-up efforts and maintain timely data entry and case management.
  • Meet with participants regularly to monitor progress and provide support and guidance.
  • Willingness to conduct workshops and perform other duties as assigned.

About this position

Description:

BASIC FUNCTION: The Career Specialist provides employment and training services to individuals who may be dependent upon public benefits, have disabilities, unemployed, underemployed, or have other barriers to employment. These services include development and implementation of a service plan, career guidance, employment counseling, and post-employment follow-up services.

WORK PERFORMED:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:30AM to 4:30PM

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EQUIVALENT EDUCATION LEVEL REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: One year of personnel, guidance, sales, or social work experience.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: A comprehensive understanding of the world of work and the needs of young adults and adults with barriers to employment. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and computer proficiency, including the use of the Microsoft Office Suite.

INCIDENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid state driver’s license and reliable access to personal automobile.

Salary Information
