Job summary

Northwest Arctic Borough School District seeks a ReadiSTAR coordinator to support career education and pathway development for students across the region. The role involves extensive travel to remote village schools and collaboration with high school staff to map meaningful future opportunities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Travel to remote village schools, including overnight stays.
• Help high school students identify and develop meaningful career paths.
• Develop Individual Learning Plans based on progress and career pathways.
• Create remediation plans with students and staff when needed.
• Collaborate with prospective employers on career paths and internships.
• Coordinate with post-secondary institutions, agencies, and the military.
• Engage with institutions and businesses to develop summer internships and experiences.
• Identify funding sources for student career path plans.
• Administer surveys and exams to assist in career path development and postsecondary applications.
• Coordinate logistics for ReadiSTAR sessions: applications, transportation, lodging, meals, activities, and documents.
• Assist with ReadiSTAR field trips and cultural experiences.
• Develop CTE pathways and align with Perkins and industry standards.
• Coordinate with the State of Alaska for course approvals.
• Work with CTE teachers to develop consistent syllabi for pathways.
• Develop at least one completed CTE pathway per year with certifications and college alignment.
• Advise students on career options in the region and state.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree with valid Alaska Type A teaching certificate required Four-year college degree required.
Type 'A' Teaching Certificate required.
Successful experience working with Native American students. Experience with post-secondary/vocational education preferred. Experience with CTE, pathways and Perkins format.
Five years educational experience preferred.
Reports To: Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Director of Alaska Technical Center
Job Goal: To assist all aspects of ReadiSTAR. To provide NWABSD students logistical, technical and academic support for career education and career pathway development in compliance with federal, state, regional and career standard
Performance Responsibilities:

1. 1. Travel to remote village schools, The travel may entail overnight stays.
2. 2. Work with high school students in the district to identify and develop meaningful career paths.
3. 3. Work with students and staff in developing Individual Learning Plans for students based upon academic progress and career pathways.
4. 4. Work with students and staff when necessary in developing remediation plans for students.
5. 5. Work with prospective employers with developing career paths for students and opportunities for internships.
6. 6. Work with post-secondary institutions, agencies, military, etc. in developing career paths.
7. 7. Work with institutions, agencies and businesses to develop summer internships, educational experiences, etc. for high school students.
8. 8. Identify funding sources for student career path plans.
9. 9. Administer necessary surveys and exams to students to assist in developing career paths, as well as, part of the postsecondary application process.
10. 10. Coordinate all logistics for ReadiSTAR sessions: student application, selection, transportation, lodging, food, coordinating student experiences/activities, identifying individual needs (drivers' licenses, documents, appointments that may be only available in Kotzebue)
11. 11. Assist with ReadiSTAR field trips, cultural experiences
12. 12. Coordinate and develop CTE pathways including foundational and technical courses in accordance with Perkins and industry standards.
13. 13. Coordinate with State of Alaska (Sheila Box) for state approval of courses
14. 14. Coordinate with CTE teachers and research to develop consistent syllabi for foundational and technical pathway courses.
15. 15. Fully develop CTE pathways at least one completed per year grades 5-14 with possible certifications, college/university course alignment – degrees
16. 16. Assist and advise students on career options in region and state.
17. 17. Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the NWABSD Board of Education.
