Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Education, Special Education or related field.
  • Two years of experience working with and teaching students with intellectual disabilities.
  • Teaching certification or license in special education.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate employment and internship opportunities for FGCU R.I.S.E. program and teach courses supporting career development and workforce readiness.
  • Oversee internship placements and supervision; work with community agencies to facilitate job placements.
  • Meet with participants face to face, over the phone, and virtually to assist in obtaining experiential learning opportunities and/or employment.
  • Promote employment of R.I.S.E. students on campus and in the community; serve as liaison to employers and agencies.
  • Collect and analyzes data related to career development and internships; conduct workshops and career events.

Job Summary

Job Description
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Provides opportunities for career exploration and education,career advising and planning, the development of job search skillsand strategies, on-site job coaching, networking and interviewingskills, connection to internship and employment options, andfive-year follow-up.
  • Oversees all internship placements and supervision ofinternships for R.I.S.E. program participants. Works with communityagencies to facilitate job placements for R.I.S.E programcompleters.
  • Meets face to face, over the phone, and virtually with programparticipants to assist them in obtaining experiential learningopportunities and/or employment.
  • Promotes employment of R.I.S.E. students on campus and in thecommunity. Serves as a liaison to employers and agencyrepresentatives and creates and maintains strong collaborativerelationships with participating and potential employers.
  • Teaches courses related to professional career development,career seminars, and internships. Serves as instructor of recordfor SLS 1304 Career Exploration (2 credits), SLS 1350 EmployabilitySkills (2 credits), SLS 1320 Exploring Learning from Experience (2credits), SLS 1305 Professional Career Development (2 credits), SLS2930 Career Seminar (2 credits), and SLS 2940 Career Internship (2credits), totaling six credits for Fall semester and six creditsfor Spring semester.
  • Educates students about access to internships and employmentopportunities, and help with career counseling for students
  • Participates in administering policies and procedures tooptimize processes and ensure compliance.
  • Collects and analyzes data and statistics related to careerdevelopment and internships of R.I.S.E with programs leaders andkey stakeholders.
  • Conduct workshops, career events, and presentations.
  • Attends assigned Florida Center for Students with UniqueAbilities (FCSUA) webinars and annual in-person meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient withMicrosoft Office.
  • Teaching certification or license in special education.
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience,and/or certifications may be considered.
