POSITION DETAILS

Office of Career Advancement

The Office of Career Advancement at Bronx Community College, part of the Department of Career Advancement and Continuing Education, provides comprehensive, equitable, and high-quality career services to all students, regardless of degree status. The office is dedicated to empowering and inspiring students to prepare for and secure internships and employment opportunities aligned with their academic and professional goals.

To fulfill this mission, the Office of Career Advancement provides job-readiness training, career-focused workshops, information sessions, mentorship, and access to internships, fellowships, and volunteer opportunities through both in-person and remote modalities. The office also maintains a professional attire boutique on campus to support students' professional development. Each student is assigned a Career Specialist with expertise in their field of study to ensure personalized guidance and support.

The Student Career Advisor reports to the Director of Career Advancement.

On a typical week, the Student Career Advisor will:

Deliver career development workshops and individual and group sessions on topics including resume and cover letter writing, job-search strategies, interview preparation, professional branding, and workplace readiness. Tailor workshop and session content to diverse student populations and campus needs, and track attendance and participant feedback to continuously improve program effectiveness.

Represent the Office of Career Advancement at campus and community events, including career fairs, orientations, student club and Student Life events, and employer information sessions, by staffing information tables, distributing career resources, and promoting career services, workshops, and appointment scheduling.

Provide front-desk coverage by greeting and checking in students and visitors, responding to telephone and email inquiries, scheduling appointments, and directing students to the appropriate Career Specialist, advisor, or resource as needed.

Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Career Gear™ Boutique, including scheduling and checking in students for appointments, assisting students in selecting appropriate professional attire, maintaining inventory and merchandise organization, and confirming that students have met eligibility requirements, such as completing a prior career advising appointment, before their fitting.

This position will be paid through a tax-levy grant through June 30, 2028.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

Preferred: One year of experience working in a college or university career services office or a similar student advising unit.

  • Maintains systems such as job banks, resource databases, and placement statistics; analyzes data; maintains department web site
  • Coordinates career fairs and other career office events; prepares and distributes communications regarding events and programs
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary range $50,350-$87,784; commensurate with qualifications and experience.
