Job summary

SerMetro in Detroit, MI seeks a Career Coach to assess Detroit At Work Career Center customers’ career readiness and provide coaching services at the Northwest Activities Center. You will develop individualized Career Plans, guide job readiness, and refer clients to training/workshops as needed.

Responsibilities include administering assessments, reporting barriers, and maintaining MIS case files, while collaborating with the Talent Sourcing Specialist to connect customers with employment

Qualifications

• Experience in career planning, placement, employment, training, or a related field preferred.
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Knowledge of education, training and community resources; of career coaching principles, objectives, standards, and methods; and of program policies and procedures.
• Ability and desire to work with a diverse population of customers with varying needs.
• Ability to communicate effectively; to assess customer needs; and to assist with case management activities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).
• Must possess and provide a valid Michigan Driver's License. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and have access to reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Interview customers to assess service needs and review documentation for barriers to be addressed.
• Develop a Career Plan with the customer identifying interests, goals, needs, and placement strategy.
• Assess career readiness and recommend strategies including referrals to training/workshops.
• Assist with administration of career and job readiness assessment instruments.
• Identify barriers and report to supervisor with action plans.
• Provide counseling and supportive services to address barriers to completion of the program.
• Connect customers with job placement services; coordinate with Talent Sourcing Specialist.
• Maintain case reporting in MIS and customer files; track attendance and progress.
• Re-engage customers needing additional coaching; document efforts and outcomes.
• Maintain knowledge of current labor market and trends; recommend policy changes.
• Attend meetings as required; conduct home visits or meetings as needed.
• Contribute to team efforts; perform other duties as assigned.
