Job summary

JVS SoCal is seeking a part-time Career Coach to support West Hollywood residents at the West Hollywood Career Center. The role focuses on coaching, job readiness, and guiding participants toward sustainable employment, with documentation and reporting per program guidelines.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, experience with dislocated workers or high-risk populations, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Meet and exceed performance/outcome goals as set by City of West Hollywood and JVS SoCal Management.
  • Identify potential job opportunities by co-developing Individual Employment Plans and assessing clients’ skills/goals.
  • Set up recruitments and events to get West Hollywood participants employed.
  • Maintain timely documentation and reports per program guidelines; ensure data accuracy and weekly activity reports.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to deliver a comprehensive set of services.
  • Deliver group presentations and workshops on resume preparation, interviewing techniques, and job searching strategies.

Description

The Career Coach will be supervised by and report to the West Hollywood Program Manager. This individual welcomes customers to the West Hollywood Career Center located in the West Hollywood Library.

This is a part-time Union position, 20-22 hours a week, coaching and guiding West Hollywood Community Members. Identifying clients' employment goals, developing their job readiness, and guiding them in finding suitable and sustainable employment.

Requirements

  • Preferred BA or BS degree in Writing, Communications, or another related field.
  • Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with stakeholders in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills.
  • Prior experience with dislocated workers and high-risk populations is valuable.
  • Skill in facilitating groups, writing resumes, and working with diverse populations is essential.
  • Have fluency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Case management experience is helpful.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to write clear, concise, professional case notes.
  • Must be able to read and write effectively to follow and understand procedures and communicate necessary information (excellent organizational skills).
  • Must be flexible, reliable, dependable, and able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to use good judgment, interview techniques, and interpersonal skills.
  • Timeliness and attention to detail are essential, and knowledge of WIOA common measures and requirements are desirable.
  • Will require occasional travel to various events.
  • Reliable transportation required
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Russian language preferred but not required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The WeHoWorks Career Coach meets and exceeds performance and outcome goals as set by the City of West Hollywood and JVS SoCal Management. Co-developing Individual Employment Plans, assessing clients’ skills and goals, and identifying potential job opportunities.
  • The position involves finding jobs and matching clients to current opportunities.
  • The Career Coach will be responsible for setting up recruitments and events designed to get West Hollywood participants employed.
  • This individual is required to maintain timely documentation and reports according to WeHo City program guidelines. Responsible for timely submission and accuracy of data, case notes, and weekly activity reports.
  • Is knowledgeable about the range of services in the community and develops and maintains relationships with partners to deliver a comprehensive array of services to customers.
  • Will make group presentations and may deliver workshops in the areas of resume preparation, interviewing techniques, and job searching strategies.
  • Will complete other tasks as required to fulfill the requirements of contracts. Attend training and/or meetings when scheduled.
  • Working remotely is not an option.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment is required.

Salary

$27.00 per hour
