Job summary

Highland Community Unit School District 5 is seeking a full-time Career and Technical Education teacher for their middle school program. This role will focus on Agriculture, Industrial, and Construction Trades, with the goal of engaging students through hands-on activities and career exploration.

The ideal candidate will hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsements and demonstrate strong classroom management and communication skills. The position offers the opportunity to shape a new vocational program and work collaboratively within the school.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with CTE endorsement (grades 6-12) preferred.

Job description

Description: Full-time Career and Technical Education teacher in a 600 student middle school. Focus on Agriculture, Industrial, and Construction Trades.

Courses to be taught will include:

• 9-week quarterly classes for 7th and 8th grade students

Facilities and technology available include:

• New fully equipped classroom facility with shop tools/machinery.

Applicant must be willing to:

• Prepare lesson plans, demonstrations, and materials focusing on hands‑on activities focusing on the basics of industrial trades, construction trades, and agriculture to support curriculum development and instructional improvement of our new middle school vocational program.
• Use research based methods to develop engaging lessons that require higher order thinking.
• Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep record of materials and equipment for classroom and laboratory.
• Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Ensure students are exposed to potential career opportunities as they move on to high school.
• Accommodate students with a variety of skills, abilities, and challenges.
• Work cooperatively with staff to support a collaborative school culture.
• Communicate effectively both written and verbal.
• Communicate high expectations for teaching and learning.
• Possess strong classroom management and organizational skills.

Qualifications:

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with CTE endorsement grades 6-12 preferred, or the ability to apply for a short‑term approval in these areas.

Salary:

Based on HEA contract.
