Job summary

McLaren Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to provide clerical support on the patient care unit, following hospital policies and procedures. You will handle reception, data entry, transcription of physician orders, scheduling procedures, and maintaining medical records.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of a health unit coordinator course or related coursework in medical terminology and data entry.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of health unit coordinator course, or related medical terminology and data entry coursework.

Responsibilities

• Provide general clerical support to the unit, including reception, data entry and retrieval; maintain supply inventory and distribute information.
• Transcribe physician orders and notify appropriate parties.
• Schedule procedures and patient transportation to procedure sites.
• Participate in orientation of new staff.
• Respond to phone calls and information requests accurately and efficiently.
• Respond to patient call lights and inform appropriate staff of requests.
• Maintain current orders, records and documentation.
• Keep workstation clean, orderly and well-stocked.
• Perform basic mathematical calculations accurately.
• Engage in ongoing professional growth and education through training and reading on scope of practice.
• Maintain medical records in orderly fashion with documents properly organized.
• Perform other related responsibilities as necessary.
