Job summary

Pensacola Lung Group is seeking a Referral Coordinator to manage incoming and outgoing patient referrals under supervision. The position may involve shifts and over 40 hours per week as required.

The role includes validating insurance eligibility, obtaining prior authorizations, scheduling patients with specialists, coordinating with referring providers, and supporting front desk tasks as needed. Strong HIPAA compliance and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; medical office admin coursework preferred.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in referral processing or front desk/office duties in a physician setting preferred.
• CMAA certification or equivalent preferred.
• Basic understanding of clinical documentation and ability to interpret referrals, ICD-10 codes, and visit reasons.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate inbound and outbound patient referrals from receipt to completion.
• Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for referrals and schedule visits accordingly.
• Obtain prior authorizations and pre-certifications as required.
• Schedule patients with specialists and diagnostic facilities.
• Serve as liaison between patients, referring providers, and insurance carriers.
• Back up front desk tasks such as check-in/check-out and data updates when needed.
• Track pending referrals and authorizations through closure and document in EMR.
