Choice in Aging is seeking a Care Professional - Casual to support program activities and assist frail elders and adults with disabilities under supervision of the Activity Coordinator and Program Director. You will help participants with daily living tasks and document daily interactions and wellbeing.

This role emphasizes respectful, person-centered care, confidentiality, teamwork, and reliable communication.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Clear TB test and Livescan background check.
  • Clear verbal and written English communication.
  • Ability to loudly project voice for hearing impaired clients.
  • Ability to work as a team member.

  • Lead and assist with program activities to encourage client participation.

  • Assist with food preparation, serving meals, and cleanup.
  • Complete client documentation and logs.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all matters of client care.

Job description

Under the supervision of the Activity Coordinator and the direction of the Program Director, the Care Professional - Casual leads and assists with program activities, assists fellow staff attend to the physical and social needs of clients in the program and completes documentation regarding participant daily interactions and physical wellbeing. In addition, the Care Professional - Casual works as a member of the Choice in Aging (CiA) team providing health and social services to frail elders and adults with disabilities to meet CiA’s mission to create opportunities where people can learn, grow and age independently with dignity in community.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead, engage and assist with program activities, encouraging client participation by implying recognition, respect and trust.
  • Provide care which respects and values the uniqueness of the individual.
  • Seek to maintain and restore the personhood of individuals through the creation of an environment that promotes personal worth, agency, social confidence and hope.
  • Build relationships with each individual participant, resulting in a one on one relationship based on respect.
  • Take an active role to understand each participant’s likes, interests, background, family history and dislikes.
  • Interact with participants involving good, constructive, beneficial conversation and companionship.
  • Assist clients with (non-instrumental) activities of daily living including toileting, feeding, ambulating, transferring, clothing, grooming, and personal hygiene.
  • Provide safety supervision, emotional support, and when necessary, behavior management for participants.
  • Participate in maintaining a clean program area in general and specific cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Assist with preparation of food (cutting/pureeing/thickening/plating), serving meals, refreshments and clean-up.
  • Complete client documentation as assigned including progress narratives, flow sheets, toileting logs, and staff communication logs.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all matters of client care.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Clear TB test, must pass the Livescan fingerprint background check.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in written English.
  • Must be able to loudly project voice and articulate clearly when necessary for hearing impaired clients.
  • Must be able to work as a team member.
Typical Physical Demands:
Have the ability to:
  • Safely and physically assist with toileting participants.
  • Have the ability to physically respond quickly to participant needs.
  • Hear and respond to buzzer sounds for assistance in the bathroom.
  • See participants in the program in order to observe and respond to needed assistance.
  • Speak clearly and with volume for hearing impaired participants.
  • Be able to push, pull, move, and assist with transferring adult participants.
  • Have the ability to transfer a maximum of 50 pounds.

Please Note: Being fully vaccinated means that an individual is at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
