Bethanyhomedubuque is seeking an Activity Coordinator to join their team. This role involves planning, executing, and facilitating activities that enhance the physical and emotional well-being of elderly residents.
Successful candidates will maintain safety standards, document participation, and ensure quality interaction among residents. The position requires a high school diploma or GED and the ability to obtain CPR certification after hire.
Work is primarily in a climate-controlled environment, supporting residents with mobility needs and fostering community.
Please accept this invitation to join the Bethany Home team as an activity coordinator. This position is scheduled every Wednesday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and every other Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and executes activities for independent living, nursing, skilled nursing care and memory care residents.
Plan, organize and facilitate a wide range of activities that support the physical, emotional, social and cognitive needs of elderly residents.
Assess the needs and interests of residents through one-on-one and group interaction.
Coordinate and assist residents in getting to and from activity locations in the building.
Lead or assist in conducting activities to promote the well-being of residents.
Document resident activity program attendance and ensure that all charted activity progress notes are informative, descriptive and indicate the resident’s response.
Observe resident mood, behavior, and degree of involvement in activities and report any changes or concerns to the activity director.
Conduct in-room activity programs for those residents who benefit from one-on-one visits.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth execution of activities.
If a designated driver, may be asked to transport residents to activities and/or personal appointments.
Facilitate social interaction among residents, fostering a sense of community.
Ensure that all activities comply with safety standards.
Attend staff and department meetings/in-services as scheduled. Timely completion of assigned electronic in-services.
Comply with facility infection control requirements and use PPE as required.
Treat all residents with dignity and respect. Promote and protect all residents’ rights.
Establish a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Comply with standards of business conduct and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
Maintain confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
Report any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protect residents from abuse and cooperate with all investigations.
Report any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
Participate in all life safety and emergency drills and training. Fulfill responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility’s emergency plan.
Report work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
High school diploma or GED OR student enrolled in high school who verifies diploma upon completion of education
CPR and first aid certification (Can be obtained after job offer)
Ability to successfully pass pre-employment physical and a 2-step TB test
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with the elderly in a caregiving role
Work experience in an activity department in a long-term care facility or CNA
Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets the criteria to become an authorized driver
Work indoors in climate-controlled environment.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the building throughout the day.
Physical stamina to assist residents in moving to and from activities and to actively participate in activities.
Ability to push an occupied wheelchair throughout the building frequently.
May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements.
Ability to grasp, squeeze, twist and pick up small objects.
Ability to stand and walk the entire shift.
Ability to lift, push and pull up to 25 lbs. frequently without assistance.
Ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs. frequently with assistance.
May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions.
