Job description

Summary

The Psychiatric Care Management Assistant (PCMA) is an integral part of the social work team in the inpatient behavioral health units at Northwest. The PCMA functions as the liaison between the hospital and the Office of the Public Defender (OPD) and the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), ensuring that dockets are updated weekly and that family members are prepared to testify at hearings when necessary.

The PCMA is responsible for facilitating hearings each week, representing Northwest Hospital during the hearing, communicating with OPD and OAH to keep the hospital compliant with legal requirements and COMAR regulations for involuntarily admitted patients, and giving opening and/or closing statements in hearings.

The PCMA also assesses patient insurance and financial status to facilitate appropriate discharge planning, maintains a log of post‑hospital care referrals, provider contacts, and related information, and serves as a communication liaison between attending psychiatrists, social workers, and external reviewers.

In addition, the PCMA performs administrative support tasks such as maintaining departmental statistical data, tracking and maintaining departmental system reports, and performing general clerical and receptionist duties. The PCMA works in partnership with other staff members and providers and proactively identifies and provides for the customer's needs.
