Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a patient referral specialist for the Neurology Sleep Center. You will coordinate referrals, manage scheduling, and act as a patient advocate, communicating with patients, families, and clinical staff to resolve barriers to appointments.

Responsibilities include ensuring insurance authorization, maintaining Epic referral records, and guiding the care team to timely follow-up and optimal treatment planning.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Medical Terminology knowledge; experience with surgical/appointment scheduling software and electronic medical records preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serves as liaison and patient advocate to coordinate referrals and appointments.
• Shows data analyses to track patient compliance and reconciles discrepancies in referrals.
• Obtains insurance authorization for visits and attaches referral records to visits in Epic.
• Communicates with patients, families, and staff to ensure timely scheduling and care follow-up.
• Trains new staff members and assists as needed.
