Job description

Responsibilities

• Assesses, plans, and implements nursing care in the CVOR while ensuring patient comfort.
• Anticipates, identifies, and responds to informational and emotional needs of patients and families.
• Guides and directs healthcare personnel (e.g., Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment setup, maintenance, and use (e.g., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, drainage devices). Utilizes safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms.
• Initiates emergency support measures (e.g., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, injury prevention).
• Assists with patient care duties/tasks (e.g., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, hygiene).

Qualifications

• Unencumbered license to practice in the State of Arkansas.
• At least 6 months of acute care experience required; new graduates or nurses without acute care experience are hired through our residency program. 1 year of experience is required for PRN positions.
• Previous CVOR experience is preferred but not required.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association is required.

Overview

As a CVOR Nurse at CHI St Vincent, you will prepare patients for surgical procedures and assist in the operating room to ensure excellent nursing care during their most vulnerable moments.

Your daily tasks include reviewing consent forms, answering patient questions, conducting preoperative assessments, preparing equipment, and updating family members during surgery. You will also assist the surgeon directly during procedures.

Success in this role requires the ability to maintain focus while multitasking, remain calm under pressure, and exercise good judgment in emergencies.
